What Is GRAIN ROT?
You are a living spark inhabiting a fragile wooden vessel. Vessels crack, collapse and catch fire, and when yours breaks the spark escapes — death is a change of housing, not an ending.
You ride a cursed elevator down into shifting ruins with your group, rip out furniture for resources, feed scrap to the Grinder for coins, and try to get back up before the Corrupted close in. If every vessel in the party breaks, everything you gathered is lost.
What you carry home rebuilds the Outpost: interactive furniture, stat upgrades, rescued survivors, and stranger tools for surviving the next descent.

The Core Loop in 60 Seconds
- 01Gather enough coins to run the elevator, then descend with your group.
- 02Read the elevator's modifier symbols — they set the rules for that run and you cannot pick them.
- 03Break furniture for resources, or feed it into the Grinder for coins.
- 04Avoid or fight the Corrupted. The deeper you go, the worse the corruption gets.
- 05If your vessel breaks you continue as a spark — find another body before your light runs out.
- 06Extract before the party wipes, or lose everything you collected.
- 07Spend the haul on Outpost rooms. Room upgrades are where permanent stats come from — character level is not.

What kind of game is GRAIN ROT?
A horror co-op extraction builder. You descend into procedurally generated ruins, scavenge, and rebuild a persistent Outpost between runs.
How many players can join?
Steam does not publish a cap. A player reported a working five-person session; guides claiming a hard limit of four are repeating a guess made from marketing screenshots.
What happens when you die?
Your vessel breaks and you continue as a spark, which must find a new body before its light fades. If every vessel in the party is destroyed, the run's loot is lost.
Does levelling my character make me stronger?
No. Character level only unlocks badges for your Scrappie — pure cosmetics. Stats come from upgrading Outpost rooms.
Can the third floor be unlocked?
Not in the current version. The door exists but stays locked, and players report running out of quests while it does. The developer has promised further updates.
