Released 7 August 2026
GRAIN ROT is out. The Steam store page gives the release date as Aug 7, 2026, and the game is not marked as Early Access.

From wishlist announcement to release is about ten weeks of public campaign, and the wishlist count roughly 12x'd across it.
"Is this the full game?"
This question has its own Steam thread, and it is the honest complication behind the release date.
The game is not labelled Early Access. But players finishing it in the first week found the edges: the third floor door is in the game and locked, the questline stops rather than concludes, and the vault is where the story currently runs out.
From that thread:
"I ran out of quests to do, yet the door to the 3rd floor is still locked"
Another player in the same thread describes the game as "officially in Early Access" despite the marketing — which is not accurate as a store fact, but does capture how the content volume reads.
The developers' position is unambiguous. From the pinned Launch FAQ:
"GRAIN ROT launches as a complete, full game."
Post-launch priorities are "launch stability, bug fixes, balance, and quality-of-life improvements", plus "several content updates and patches for the foreseeable future."
That is backed by the roadmap published 12 August: a new biome and enemies in September, the third floor plus a new questline in October — stated as monthly goals rather than dates.
So should you wait?
We are not going to tell you what to buy. What is knowable:
- What exists now is a complete loop — descend, scavenge, extract, upgrade the Outpost — with a story that stops early
- What is promised is two content updates in the two months after release, from a two-person team, described as goals rather than commitments
- The patch cadence has been real: seven in the first five days, then a public roadmap
If the locked door is what brought you here, October is the stated month, and that page tracks it.
What is not confirmed
- Whether the October update lands in October. The developers explicitly declined to give fixed dates
- Whether a 1.1 or similar version milestone is planned, or whether updates just continue
- How long the content runs for an average player — no source states an hour count
