GRAIN ROT Patch Notes and Roadmap: Every Update So Far

Every GRAIN ROT patch from 1.01 to 1.07 in full, plus the developers' own roadmap for September and October — quoted from the official Steam news feed.

Last updated 2026-08-19

Seven patches in the first five days

GRAIN ROT released on 7 August 2026. Patch 1.01 landed on the 8th and 1.07 on the 12th — seven patches in five days, from a two-person team.

That pace is the single most important thing to know before you follow any GRAIN ROT guide, including ours: advice written on the 9th could already have been patched by the 10th. Two concrete examples on this site alone —

Everything below is quoted from the official Steam news feed, newest first.

The roadmap: September and October

From What's Next for GRAIN ROT, posted 12 August 2026 and signed by Miche & Nikko.

⚠️ Read this first. The developers set the terms themselves:

"Rather than a list of fixed dates, we'd like to share an overview of our goals for updates each month. We want to stay flexible enough to respond to your suggestions and feedback, so some details may update as development continues."

These are monthly goals, not shipping dates.

WhenWhat
Within a month of 12 Aug"a batch of new constructs, and a new vessel"
SeptemberThe Deep Layers Update"one new biome and several new enemies"
OctoberThe Halloween Update"will open the third floor of the Outpost and introduce a new questline, amongst other visual updates"
Between updatesFixes, performance, balancing, quality-of-life

Also described as in progress at the time: a public lobby browser — which then shipped in 1.07 five days later, so the roadmap's near-term items are tracking.

More on what this means for the locked door upstairs: 3rd floor.

Patch 1.07 — 12 August 2026

  • Public servers are now available to join via an in-game browser.
  • Added more host game settings under the multiplayer options tab.
  • Added support for password protected servers.
  • The friends only and invite only privacy mode now allows for friends of anyone in the server to join, not just the host.
  • Added a new hat that can be found in the Deep Layers.

Why it matters: the friends-only change is the one that alters how groups form — before it, a friends-only lobby was gated on the host's friends list. See how many players.

Patch 1.06 — 11 August 2026

  • Fixed so Quill shouldn't catch fire on his patrol route outside the Outpost.
  • Fixed a bug where a legendary gumball would not give any reward.
  • Added security measurements for incoming connection.

Why it matters: if a legendary Gumball once gave you nothing, that was the bug — worth re-running. See constructs. The Quill fix also confirms he patrols outside the Outpost: Quill.

Patch 1.05 — 10 August 2026

  • Fixed missing Localization.
  • Fixed a bug where you could not join friends when lobby privacy was set to friends.

Patch 1.04 — 10 August 2026

The largest patch of the week.

  • Added start/stop follow animation and sound for Little Buddy.
  • Fixed an issue where the items owned by a client gets destroyed when they leave the game. They should now either be dropped on the ground or moved to the lost and found crate.
  • Fixed bug where the player could not respawn because the area was blocked.
  • Fixed a bug where Grain Rot was visible through certain unrepaired ceiling modules.
  • Fixed so Vessels can now be on all balconies without taking any fire damage.
  • Fixed Mini Plant's collision so it's easier to place on shelves.
  • Added multiplayer settings for lobby privacy and max player count.
  • Added a view lobby menu where you can adjust player mic volume and kick / ban players.

Why it matters: two entries here invalidate older guides. The balcony fix retires the "use the balcony above the Refuge entrance" instruction in umbrella guides, and the max player count setting changes the whole shape of the how many players question. The Mini Plant fix matters if you farm room XP: Outpost upgrades.

Patch 1.03 — 9 August 2026

  • Fixed a bug where a bunker door in the ancient facilities could not be opened by clients.
  • Fixed a bug where the save file could load into a black void.
  • Fixed bug where key bindings did not save correctly.

Why it matters: this is the official end of the "only the host can open the vault" problem — though player reports of it continued after this date, which we cover on Ancient Secrets.

Patch 1.02 — 9 August 2026

  • Added a welcome message for when a new player joins the game.
  • Added a hatch above the elevator for people who like to break the physics engine.
  • Double fixed a bug where you could not pick up coins or the fuse in some boxes in the deep layers.
  • Fixed a bug where you could not load a save file while offline from Steam.
  • Fixed a bug where constructs attached to a wall did not correctly apply the attach state after loading a save.
  • Fixed a bug where stacked objects could start vibrating indefinitely when disturbed.
  • Fixed a bug where a mesh related to a boss in the deep layers could appear at the outpost after a dungeon run.
  • Fixed a bug where picking up a mallet caused it to disappear.
  • Fixed a bug where the highscore displayed the wrong number.
  • Fixed a bug where the rolling boulder trap was invisible to clients.

Why it matters: "double fixed" is their wording — the fuse pickup bug needed two goes. See elevator fuse. The invisible boulder is the one that was killing people in the ancient ruins.

Patch 1.01 — 8 August 2026

  • Fixed a bug where you could not pick up coins or the fuse in some boxes in the deep layers.
  • Tables now appear under the furniture category in the build menu.
  • Fixed a bug where performance was worse than expected due to light invalidation.
